Eyeglass lens maker Essilor recently released a new progressive lens
designed specifically for golfers. The Definity Fairway is a
progressive lens with Ground View Advantage and several other
features designed specifically for improved performance on the
course.
- Tracking the ball in flight

- Most comfortable/natural head and body position
- Ease of reading the contour of the green
- Judging distance to the hole
- Putting, chipping and driving
- Reading the score card
The foundation of the Definity Fairway is the Ground View Advantage
feature, which allows the presbyopic wearer to see better when
looking at the ground. The lower portion of the lens is shaped to
create an additional zone of vision not found in standard
progressive lenses.

Presbyopia is the condition in which the eye loses flexibility with
age. It happens to most people, and typically starts in the 40’s.
When people start developing presbyopia, they will often notice that
it becomes more difficult to change focus between near and far
objects, and that the eyes become tired sooner when reading. They
start holding reading material farther away. “My eyes are fine. My
arms are too short!”
The Definity Fairway includes an amber tint selected specifically to
enhance green contrast on the course. The tint is self-adjusting as
the outdoor lighting conditions change. The lens also provides 100%
UV protection and has a Scotchgard scratch and smudge resistant
coating.
The wider visual zones make the Definity lens a good choice for off
the golf course, too. Wearers experience a wider reading range,
which means less head turning when reading a book or computer
screen. It also means improved clarity of the dashboard when
driving, and less “wave” effect when going down stairs.
